Center for Nanoscale Science and Engineering
http://www.ndsu.edu/cnse/

The mission of the NDSU Center for Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) is to engage in pioneering, interdisciplinary research and technology development on materials whose functional design starts at the atomic-molecular scale. CNSE's focus is on practical materials, processes and devices that are the basis of 21st century technology. CNSE operates through research and development contracts and grants from government and the private sector, and welcomes cooperative programs with other universities and research institutions.

In 2002 NDSU became the only University in the world to develop a fully-integrated high throughput experimentation combinatorial laboratory, also referred to as the “Combi Lab”. With this pioneering high-speed combinatorial technology, CNSE researchers can perform as many as 140 to 380 experiments at once, and do in 5 hours what would normally take a year to accomplish.

CNSE currently has six major Department of Defense-sponsored programs in place in the areas of microsensors, wireless electronics miniaturization, advanced marine coatings for Navy ships, hybrid coatings for aircraft systems, superhybred coatings, and spin electronics in polymer matierials. Private sector partners include Alien Technology, Symyx Technologies, Tessera Technologies, and Signal-Crane Technology Corp.
